Classic Albums Live is a concert series based in Toronto,Ontario, in which musicians perform a classic rock album in its entirety. The series was founded in 2003 by Craig Martin, a musician who had previously produced a series of boutique cabaret shows as well as composed music for television and film.
The musicians go to great lengths to faithfully recreate every sound on the original album exactly as you remember hearing them…note for note, cut for cut.. They have performed with orchestras, sitarists, choirs and schools. The shows are treated like recitals with the album being performed in its entirety followed by a ‘greatest hits’ set of the featured artist.
This highly-acclaimed album released by The Rolling Stones in 1969 has “tones that are at once dark and perfectly clear, while the words are slurred and buried for a stronger musical effect” according to Rolling Stone Magazine’s review. The band carries the songs past lyrics and into pure emotion. There’s an obscure but tangible story line that follows the collection of songs that include “Gimme Shelter,” “Midnight Rambler,” “Let it Bleed,” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” Classic Albums Live performs the album in its entirety note-for-note, cut-for-cut and recreates one of the Rolling Stones’ most treasured albums.
