The Sentimental Swing Dinner Dance event is a charitable 1940’s themed event.
The main star of the week will be the Sentimental Journey B17-G Flying Fortress, part of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF). She is exceptionally rare being only one of 10 B-17Gs in the world that is still flying out of almost 13,000 produced from 1936 to 1945. 8,000 of them were lost in combat.
Rides on the plane will be offered throughout the week for a fee. The week of activities including the Sentimental Swing Dance and Dinner Event on June 22, marks the Anniversary of some of the most significant aerial combat of the air war over Europe.
Live evening entertainment is to be provided by the Toronto All Star Big Band. One of the most exciting bands around, the Toronto All-Star Big Band revives the spirit, style and sound of the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s – that golden age of the big bands. Armed with brilliant programming, choreography and engaging cultural nostalgia, the band will recreate a wartime hangar dance event for the evening.
Keeping in the spirit of the 1940s, attendees are asked to dress in period fashions for the evening. Ladies and gents are encouraged to dress the part by replicating the hair fashions of the 1940s, similar to the style worn by glamorous actress Doris Day (Singer of the song Sentimental Journey for whom the aircraft is named after). Gentleman are also encouraged to wear military uniforms or come dressed up in World War II-era vintage styles and be prepared to dance the night away.
Seating is limited for the event. Dinner/Dance tickets are available at Huron Flight Centre for $85.00 per person or a complete table can be purchased for $850.00 per table. Dance only option tickets are also available at the same location for $25.00 per person in advance. Dance only tickets will be available at the door for $35.00 per person on the night of the event.
Proceeds from the June 22 event will go towards Pathways Health Centre for Children.
